Designed as the main library for the growing Boone County community, the below-ground level of this three-story library houses the main administrative staff. Reading rooms, stacks and youth services are situated on the ground level and meeting rooms and children’s services are located on the upper level. To encourage frequent and casual use of the library, there is a coffee area at the core of the building. It is centered under a dome that is evocative of traditional Carnegie libraries, while integrating the technological needs of today’s libraries. To foster the notion of being a true community center, the upper level meeting room is divisible into multi-sized rooms to accommodate a variety of groups. It also incorporates a stage customized for everything from book club meetings to Bluegrass music concerts.
